@ Gene: Thanks for the link. I like the idea of having a minimalist card, then I don't have to worry about the design so much....I just have to use a great font.

*clicking on the link now :-)

Just leave a handful of business cards in your purse -- that's what I do... er, I mean I leave a handful in my wallet. It's better to forget to hand them out proactively than to say, "Sorry. I don't have a card." I ordered 250 cards that are virtually blank (except my name, phone, and email -- none of which is likely to change) from www.vistaprint.com for free. Everything else I need, I write it by hand for a more *personal touch.*

How many of the 250 cards have I handed out in nine months? Fewer than a couple dozen...

You have a good start on your LinkedIn page; you should put that on your business card, with a nice "for more info about me..." It shows them you are computer savy, and you have great self branding and marketing.

@AO: I'm kind of a slacker...so I could/should have already had cards. But I only really need them for conferences and networking events and I never think of them in time. Of course I want to kick myself in the @ss when I get to networking/ conference events and 30 people ask me for my card (and I have to hang my head in shame and tell them I don't have any.

I was trying to ask the manager coaches how to vet organizations, and the best advice I got was to ask them about their values (and their projects) and if they reek of incrementalism, I should run run run (away).

Monica,
I think during your search, you should do two things. One, get your own business cards made, evne if you don't have them given to you yet; sort of the "these are my temporary". Two, ask them the tough questions. Remember, they are under scrutiny as well. Good Luck!
